The Premise>> Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.
The Review>> I have admit that in general I do Love a good animated family film and the Ice Age films have certainly brought my family plenty of laughs. Of course it always sits if you’re mind that the wheels are going to fall off at some stage and the jokes will year thin and the story grow stale.
Not here! I am very happy to share with you all that the Team is back and cranking out not only the laughs but also some good family lessons too. Not in the overly obvious Happy Feet 1 kind of way though. Just some simple and lovely lessons about the importance of family and that family is about a group of people who want to be together and want to support each other.
Of course as with all franchises, there are some cool additions to the voice talent including the outstanding Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez and even Nicki Minag turns up for a bit of fun! I love the concept of bringing in a couple of new character components in the form of Sid’s family and on the other end of the scale, pirates as lead by a large gorilla pirate. Unlike cars 2, this out of left field addition to the plot actually works and doesn’t detract from the original premise of the Ice Age movies.

Oh and there is an awesome short animation from “The Simpsons” at the start, which is well worth seeing!
The Verdict>> a great holiday option for all the family packed with heaps of laughs and funny characters.
Some extra bits to know about the film and to look out for>> Originally, the story was rumored to involve Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Scrat frozen solid and accidentally defrosted in a museum in present day. The film was to be called “Ice Age: Th4w”.

Monsieur Lazhar Movie Review

Releases: 22ndNovember 2012
Rating: M – Contains adult themes
Duration: 94 minutes
Genre:  Drama
Starring: Fellag, Sophie Nélisse, Émilien Néron, Danielle Proulx, Brigitte Poupart
Director: Philippe Falardeau (It’s Not Me, I Swear!)
Reviewer: Jon E Clist
The Premise>> Bachir Lazhar, an Algerian immigrant, is hired to replace an elementary school teacher who died tragically. While the class goes through a long healing process, nobody in the school is aware of Bachir’s painful former life; nor that is he at risk of being deported at any moment. Adapted from Evelyne de la Cheneliere’s play, Bachir Lazhar depicts the encounter between two distant worlds and the power of self-expression. Using great sensitivity and humor, Philippe Falardeau follows a humble man who is ready to transcend his own loss in order to accompany children beyond the silence and taboo of death.
The Review>> We all have parts of our history that have shaped who we are. Sometimes it is those things that affect us to be who we are, then there are some moments of our past that have shaped us by the extent at which we go to in order to avoid remembering or re-living those moments . For most of us these moments are pretty tame, but what would your life be like if your past featured the murder of your closest loved ones; the death of ones who you held so dear but could not save. This is a story of a man who despite his own lack of inner peace has found the strength to impart peace to those around him.
With stirring performances not only from the adult cast but also the child actors. You would be pretty cold inside to not feel moved by this tale of one man’s desire to reach out to those around him and help them, while still living with his own painful past that continues to raise its head at times to haunt him.

It is well paced and although it is produced by some of the team that did Incendies, it is a lot more uplifting in its topic material and hence not quite so hard to swallow.
The Verdict>> A spectacular foreign film worthy of a viewing. It will give to you more than it will take.
Some extra bits to know about the film and to look out for>> Canada’s official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 84th Academy Awards 2012.
